Friday is National Flossing Day
There is pretty much a national day for any topic you can imagine. There is an ice cream day, a hugging day, and even a national “lumpy rug day” exist. We are a little confused about how that last one came about but it is a nationally recognized day none the less.
With all of these topics having their own day devoted to them, shouldn't dental healthcare have its own day? We think so, and there is! In fact, throughout the year, many days are devoted to dental topics, such as dentists day and oral cancer day. One such day is actually in a couple days- Friday is national flossing day!
It all Starts with Appreciation
Imagine your life if you lacked teeth- how horrible! All the foods you love would probably be a little difficult to enjoy. Or think about smiling- it's something that gives us confidence when we have nice teeth and will draw others to you. Further, a great smile even boosts our chances of getting hired. With so many reasons to appreciate our teeth, we are motivated to take care of them!
Floss and Brush!
There is a reason that dental professionals constantly remind you to floss and brush- and it's not to irritate you! We have a really good chance of developing cavities and diseased gums when all the "gunk" is left on our teeth and beneath our gums. “But my gums bleed whenever I floss!”, you may say. If this is true of you, do not ignore it! It could mean your dental health is in peril.
An article from Healthline brings out, “Gums become inflamed and bleed when there’s a buildup of plaque along the gum line. Plaque is a sticky film containing bacteria that covers your teeth and gums. And if you don’t brush or floss enough, the bacteria can spread and cause tooth decay or gum disease.”
Let this national day be the incentive you need to start caring for your teeth!
