Proper Care for Your Dentures
Finding a good routine that includes proper care for your dentures will lengthen the life of your oral appliance. Find some helpful tips below!
Keep a Good Routine of Care
What does the morning, after eating, and night have in common? They are the three most important times for denture care. Take care of your dentures with a good cleaning and care routine.
The Morning Routine
- Clean the tongue, gums, and cheeks when you wake up to keep your mouth healthy.
- Rinse your dentures thoroughly with water if they have been soaking in a denture cleaner. Why? The denture cleaning solution contains harmful chemicals that should not be consumed.
- A soft bristled toothbrush with soap and warm water is the best way to clean your dentures.
- Handle your dentures with care since they can break and chip easily when dropped.
After Eating
Gently remove and clean your dentures after each meal. Make it easy by simply running water over them! This prevents a build up of bacteria from lingering food particles.
The Nightly Routine
- Did you know your bones and gums get tired from the pressure of dentures resting on them all day? Let them rest overnight by making sure to remove your dentures as you sleep.
- To prevent your dentures from drying out overnight, we recommend putting them in a denture cleaner to soak. Water also works!
- Finally, clean your mouth with a soft tooth brush or gauze before you go to bed.
