Why You Have Bad Breath
When you have bad breath, you may avoid talking to people, going out in public, and avoid activities you may usually enjoy. It can seriously effect your daily life! But maybe you don't know why you have bad breath. Read on to learn about some common causes.
5 Causes of Bad Breath
1. Food- Each time we eat, a small amount of food gets lodged in between teeth and other crevices in our mouth. If left there without brushing and flossing, bacteria grows. This bacteria is what causes the bad smell.
2. Gum Disease- This disease means you have an overgrowth of bacteria in your gums. A foul taste and odor can result. The best option is to get checked by your dentist!
3. Dry Mouth- When we have food in our mouth, saliva helps to wash it away. A lack of saliva in our mouth means food and bacteria are more likely to sit and start smelling! According to Dental Associates, reasons for dry mouth can include “salivary gland issues, certain medications, or repeated breathing through your mouth.”
4. Smoking and Tobacco- We are all aware that smoking and tobacco are not great for our health! Additionally, our oral is affected, leading to staining of teeth and smelly breath.
5. Medical Conditions- We also learn from Dental Associates that “sinus and lung infections or kidney and liver disease can cause bad breath.”
